Apparently, FC Bayern almost caused Xavi Hernández to resign from FC Barcelona last winter. The reason for this was the poker game surrounding centre-back Ronald Araújo.

As is well known, Bayern knocked on FC Barcelona’s door last winter transfer window for Ronald Araújo. The Uruguay international is still regarded as a very interesting player for the German record champions, whose signing could become an issue again next summer. The fact that a deal was not finalised in the winter was perhaps also due to the attitude of head coach Xavi Hernández. He is said to have even threatened to resign in the event of Araújo’s departure. This was reported by Sport BILD. However, the player was reportedly not averse to a transfer.

Xavi gone: way clear for Araújo?

According to Spanish media reports, Bayern even turned down two offers in the winter. But what will happen in the summer? As we know, Xavi will no longer be coach of the Catalans as he will retire at the end of the season.

Will the 25-year-old’s path to Munich then be clear? He is still considered the top priority for the centre-back position.

araujo has made 30 appearances in all competitions for Barça this season. With 16 caps for Uruguay, he has also gained experience at this level, which qualifies him for the German record champions.

It remains to be seen where the centre-back’s career (contract until 2026) will continue. Much will depend on the ideas of the next Barça coach, but much will also depend on the plans of the next FCB coach. Both positions are still vacant.
