Tuchel exit as motivation: De Ligt wants to become a leading player at FC Bayern

Matthijs de Ligt has been repeatedly linked with a premature departure from Bayern in recent weeks. According to the latest reports, Thomas Tuchel’s departure has visibly improved the Dutchman’s mood.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Matthijs de Ligt was often secretly regarded as the No. 3 centre-back, and after the arrival of Eric Dier, he was even more frequently on the substitutes‘ bench. The 24-year-old was recently seen as a farewell candidate, who flirted with a transfer in the summer if Thomas Tuchel had remained FCB coach.

As the two BILD reporters Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk report in the Bayern Insider podcast, de Ligt’s departure from Tuchel has led to a rethink.

Chances of staying are good

Due to his complicated situation at the club under Tuchel, everything could have gone differently. Now the Dutch international is waiting for the new FCB coach and the chances are good that de Ligt will stay after all, according to Falk.

After all, the defender’s contract is still dated until 30 June 2027. Interestingly, according to BILD, de Ligt „loves FC Bayern and wants to take on a leadership role in the future“. Due to Tuchel’s departure, there is a very good chance that the defender will remain at the Isar beyond the current season.
