The discussions surrounding Bayern’s rising star Lennart Karl show no signs of ending. After Michael Ballack recently leveled sharp criticism at Uli Hoeneß and Max Eberl, the former national team captain’s dual role is now also a topic of conversation. The 50-year-old not only works as a TV analyst for DAZN but also serves as a player agent. Among his clients is, of all people, Karl.
As reported by BILD, this situation is being viewed with increasing skepticism within the soccer industry. In particular, the fact that Ballack is speaking publicly about a player represented by his own agency is reportedly sparking discussions behind the scenes.
The former midfield star’s recent statements are also said to have caused some surprise at FC Bayern. According to the report, club officials were particularly taken aback by the harshness with which Ballack had recently lashed out at Hoeneß and Eberl.
Ballack’s criticism has caused surprise at FC Bayern
The backdrop to this is the ongoing debate surrounding Lennart Karl. The 18-year-old had recently come under fire for his public behavior. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß, in particular, had publicly reprimanded the youngster.
Ballack subsequently threw his full support behind his protégé and criticized how Bayern officials had handled the talented forward.
According to information from BILD, the former national team player views his statements primarily as a defense of Karl in his role as an advisor.
It is noteworthy, however, that Ballack did not voice his criticism during a live broadcast as a DAZN analyst. Instead, he used the network as a platform for his statement. In his own view, he could just as easily have chosen another medium for this purpose.
Nevertheless, the matter raises questions. After all, as a TV analyst, Ballack is expected to provide an independent assessment of sporting and club-internal developments, while at the same time, as a player agent, he represents the interests of his clients.
DAZN has demonstratively thrown its support behind Ballack

However, the streaming service does not see this dual role as a fundamental problem.
A DAZN spokesperson told BILD that Ballack has been a valued expert for the network for many years. His clear assessments are an important part of the soccer coverage.
Furthermore, his connection to Lennart Karl is by no means a secret but is public knowledge.
From the network’s perspective, both roles are compatible. DAZN has full confidence in Ballack’s integrity and is convinced that he applies the same standards to his analyses regardless of personal connections. In doing so, the streaming provider is explicitly standing behind its longtime expert.
It remains to be seen whether tensions between the former national team captain and the leadership of the record-holding champion will continue to escalate. What is certain, however, is that Ballack’s dual role as an advisor and TV analyst has come under increased scrutiny due to the Karl case.
