FC Bayern advances to the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. In the second round, they secured a decisive 6-1 home victory against second-division side Magdeburg. Here are the FC Bayern stars’ individual ratings from FCBinside.
Jonas Urbig: Couldn’t do anything about Zukowski’s 1–1 goal because Ito deflected it unluckily. Shortly before the halftime whistle, Urbig thwarted a good chance for Magdeburg. Had nothing else to do. Grade: 3.
Josip Stanisic: Started the match at right back. Failed to challenge for the ball on a real chance by the visitors—that could have resulted in a goal. Otherwise, Stanisic played solidly. After a little over an hour, he switched to the left side and didn’t let anything get past him there. Grade: 3.
Jonathan Tah: Seemed disoriented on Magdeburg’s goal that tied the game at 1–1 and didn’t challenge the scorer, Zukowski, effectively. Overall, Tah lost a few challenges or was late to the ball. Grade: 4.
Hiroki Ito: Unluckily deflected Zukowski’s shot that made it 1–1. Otherwise, the Japanese player made a confident impression. Grade: 3.
Nathaniel Brown: Worked hard on the left side of defense early on. Ran a lot and often joined the attack. After Olise was substituted, Brown took over the number 10 role—and quickly scored the goal to make it 5–1. Good performance! Grade: 2.

Konrad Laimer: Played in the defensive midfield role, as he did in Freiburg, because Kimmich was still out due to a bereavement. He frequently contributed to Bayern’s offensive play and showed great commitment. However, he did make one errant pass that led to a Magdeburg counterattack. Otherwise, the Austrian put in a solid performance. Grade: 3.
Tom Bischof: Tested goalkeeper Reimann with a long-range shot. Bischof took another shot in the first half, but this time it went wide. In Bayern’s midfield, Bischof was accurate with his passes and often showed good vision. Grade: 3.
Michael Olise: Had Bayern’s first chance but shot just wide of the post. Shortly afterward, he scored the 1-0 for Bayern off an assist from Saibari. For Bayern’s 2-1 goal, the roles were reversed: Olise set up Saibari with a dream through ball. Olise scored the 3–1 himself. After a foul on Davies in the penalty area, he coolly converted the resulting penalty with a Panenka-style kick. That was another top-notch performance from Olise! Grade: 1.
Lennart Karl: Set up Olise’s 1-0 goal with a great through ball to Saibari, who provided the assist. In the second half, Karl fired a dangerous shot at the Magdeburg goal, but Reimann was able to clear it for a corner. Karl set up Davies’ 4–1 goal with his cross. He then curled another shot just over the bar. After facing criticism recently, Karl was very active and a constant threat. Grade: 2.
Serge Gnabry: Replaced Diaz on the left wing. However, Gnabry was left hanging there and couldn’t make an impact. The national team player was substituted at halftime. Grade: 4.
Ismael Saibari: Early on, Saibari had a chance but shot into the top of the net. He then set up the 1-0 goal by Olise beautifully after being sent through with a fine pass by Karl. Saibari scored the 2-1 himself—with a beautiful chip following a wonderful pass from Olise. The Moroccan had another good chance but blasted the ball well over the goal. Grade: 2.
Substitutes:
Alphonso Davies (46’ for Gnabry): Shortly after coming on, he drew the penalty that Olise converted for the 3–1. Davies then scored the 4–1 himself off an assist from Karl. He also added an assist on Brown’s goal for the 5–1. Strong performance off the bench! Grade: 1.

Sacha Boey (67′ for Olise): Took over the right side of the defense after coming on; Stanisic moved to the left and Brown to the number 10 position. Boey played flawlessly but unspectacularly. Grade: 3.
Aleksandar Pavlovic (67’ for Laimer): Set up the 4–1 goal by Davies with his pass to Karl. Pavlovic immediately regained control in midfield. Good. Grade: 2.
Tim Binder (74′ for Saibari): The youngster played on the right wing in the closing stages but didn’t create any dangerous chances. Grade: 3.
David Santos Daiber (82′ for Bischof): Scored the goal that made it 6–1. But he came on too late to be rated.
