A surprising transfer rumor is making the rounds around FC Bayern. The Munich club is reportedly interested in Dani Olmo of FC Barcelona and is allegedly even preparing a bid.
This is according to the Spanish website Fichajes. The report states that the German record champions are prepared to offer more than 70 million euros for the 28-year-old. There is talk of a possible “formal offer” this winter.
Olmo’s current situation at Barcelona at least provides a basis for the speculation. Although the attacking midfielder has played in all seven games so far this season, he has started only three times. Hansi Flick has let him play the full 90 minutes just once.
Olmo knows the Bundesliga inside and out
Olmo would be no stranger to Bayern. The Spanish international played for RB Leipzig from 2020 to 2024 and won the DFB-Pokal twice with the Saxon club. He then moved to Barcelona, where his contract runs through 2030.
From a sporting perspective, Olmo would generally fit Munich’s requirements. The technically gifted attacking player can be deployed as a number 10 as well as in several other positions behind the striker.
However, this is precisely where doubts about the report begin. Bayern’s attacking roster is already star-studded and versatile. With Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, Serge Gnabry, and other options, Vincent Kompany has plenty of players to choose from for the positions behind Harry Kane.
A 70-million transfer currently seems unlikely
Given the current circumstances, it seems unlikely that Bayern would invest more than 70 million euros in an additional attacking player in the middle of the season. There have also been no concrete indications of negotiations between the Munich club and Barcelona so far.
Furthermore, Olmo is under contract with Barça for the long term. A move in January would therefore require both the player and the Catalans to be open to a transfer in principle.
Consequently, the rumor should be viewed with great caution at this time.
