Min-jae Kim and FC Bayern—for a long time, there were strong indications that this partnership could end by 2028 at the latest. The South Korean has repeatedly been rumored to be on the transfer list during recent transfer windows. However, a different picture is now emerging.
According to information from fussball-news.de, four prominent clubs—Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Juventus Turin, and AC Milan—are monitoring the 29-year-old’s situation. However, no concrete negotiations regarding a transfer are currently underway. Neither Bayern nor the player’s side has reportedly received an official offer so far.
Instead, the interested clubs are observing how Kim’s role develops under Vincent Kompany. The center back is under contract in Munich through 2028 and could possibly remain with the record champions for much longer.
As Sport BILD recently reported, Bayern is generally open to extending Kim’s contract. This is a notable shift, given that the defender has repeatedly been linked with a departure in recent years.
Bayern wants to discuss the future with Kim
The first steps in this direction could be taken as early as December. According to information from fussball-news.de, an internal meeting between Kim and club officials is planned for that time. The discussion is expected to focus on his athletic prospects and their continued collaboration.
The current situation thus differs significantly from previous transfer windows. Kim is not considered a player whom Munich is eager to let go. Rather, club officials are satisfied with his performances and continue to value him as an important part of the defense.
At the same time, his situation is of interest to other clubs. Tottenham and Aston Villa are considering the South Korean as a potential reinforcement for their defense. His development is also being closely followed in Italy.
There, Kim continues to enjoy an excellent reputation. In the 2022–23 season, he played a decisive role in SSC Napoli’s championship title. Juventus and Milan could therefore become concrete options should the door to a departure from Munich open after all.
