Christoph Freund has spoken out about his relationship with Max Eberl. The Bayern sporting director clearly refutes speculation about problems.
How well does the collaboration between Christoph Freund and Max Eberl at FC Bayern really work? In recent months, there have been repeated reports of possible tensions within the club’s sports management.
At the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against Union Berlin, the 49-year-old explained that, from his perspective, the partnership with Eberl has worked well from the very beginning: “There has always been a lot of speculation. It’s worked very well from the start. We divide up the tasks very well, communicate a lot, and discuss things openly. The club is big; there are many tasks. We’re here to win as many titles as possible. There are many components that fit into the overall structure,” said the Austrian.
Eberl had already vehemently denied recent reports of alleged problems between the two Bayern bosses. The sporting leadership is thus publicly emphasizing unity.
Freund Confirms Quick Agreement with Bayern
Freund’s own future has now been clarified as well. After the contracts of CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Eberl were initially extended through 2029, the Munich-based club has now also secured Freund through 2029.
The 49-year-old commented: “I feel very comfortable at the club, especially with the people. We’ve set a lot of things in motion and want to keep working. First, the executive board’s contracts were extended; then there were discussions, and we reached an agreement quickly. I enjoy coming to work every day and am looking forward to it.”

Freund has been with FC Bayern since September 2023. In addition to collaborating with Eberl on squad planning, he is deeply involved with the youth development program and is considered a key link between the academy and the professional team.
With the agreement on his future and the contract extensions already secured for Eberl and Dreesen, FC Bayern is thus prioritizing continuity at the management level as well.
