Recently, there have actually been many signs pointing to Sacha Boey staying with FC Bayern. Now, however, a last-minute departure could still be on the horizon. According to new reports, the Munich club is in talks with clubs from Saudi Arabia regarding a transfer of the right back.
Sacha Boey might still leave FC Bayern after all. Although the transfer windows in Europe’s top leagues have already closed, a move is still possible.
That would be a surprising turn of events. As recently as Friday, sporting director Christoph Freund had stated that the likelihood of the Frenchman staying was now higher. Background: After his move to Everton fell through and the transfer window in Turkey closed, there were hardly any options left for Boey.
But the transfer window isn’t closed everywhere yet. In Saudi Arabia , clubs can still sign players. According to Christian Falk, Bayern is therefore currently in talks with clubs from the Saudi Pro League to find a buyer for Boey. The transfer window there remains open until Sunday.
Saudi Arabia as a last resort?
Boey is reportedly open in principle to a move to Saudi Arabia. The 25-year-old is under contract in Munich through 2028. A transfer would therefore still be possible for Bayern, even though the major European transfer windows have already closed.
As recently as Friday, the situation had looked very different. “It’s now more likely that he’ll stay here. He’s always conducted himself impeccably. We had a different plan, but that’s how it goes in soccer,” Freund said about Boey at the press conference ahead of the match against Schalke 04.
At the same time, the sporting director made it clear: “If all transfer windows are closed and he stays here, he will remain a player on our roster.”
Squad planning has also recently pointed toward him staying. Boey has resumed team training and was also registered on the A-list for the Champions League.
Now, however, the situation could change again. Bayern has apparently made one last attempt to transfer Boey. Saudi Arabia could thus become Munich’s last chance to finally carry out the sale of the French player, which had actually been planned.
