On Friday afternoon, alarming news about Bayern coach Vincent Kompany began circulating. The Belgian had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance after collapsing following the first team’s practice.
After the first-team training session, Kompany had been watching the reserve team as they completed their own practice. The Bayern coach had previously complained of various symptoms due to a viral infection.
In the Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig a little over a week ago, he was only able to coach to a limited extent, after which he had to take a brief break. He did not attend the press conference ahead of the Arsenal game (2–2). However, he did not miss the game itself.
Kompany had been hospitalized once before
Speaking about the match against the Gunners , the coach explained: “My body told me it needed some rest. I’d been working a lot and sleeping very little.” The stress, combined with the infection, simply became too much. The Bayern coach is currently under strict medical supervision.

The TZ now reveals that Kompany had already been to the hospital once earlier this week. At that time, he reportedly spent an entire night in the hospital and underwent a thorough examination—though without any conclusive results. This new incident is therefore now a cause for concern. Did Kompany push himself too hard and get back to work too soon?
It has long been known internally that Kompany works very hard and sleeps very little. At times, he even continues analyzing opponents late into the night. The fact that he watched the second team’s practice after Bayern’s session speaks to his work ethic. But that very thing may have been a bit too much right now.
According to the report, everyone at Bayern agrees that Kompany now needs to take it easy and can only resume leading training sessions and coaching games once he has fully recovered.
