During the last summer transfer window, FC Bayern didn’t just focus on the first-team roster. The Munich-based club continues to search worldwide for young talents who could eventually make the leap to Säbener Straße. One of these players is Virgilio Olaya.
The Ecuadorian has been linked to the German record champions for quite some time. In December 2025, there were even reports that Olaya was on the verge of a move to FC Bayern.
However, that didn’t happen. In the months that followed, things went quiet regarding a possible transfer to Munich. While contact is said to have never completely broken off behind the scenes, there was no clarity regarding the young player’s future for a long time.
In the meantime, Olaya has left his home country and made the move to Europe—though not directly to FC Bayern.
Bayern Network Brings Olaya to Europe
Olaya initially moved from the Ecuadorian club Aucas to Los Angeles FC. He is now playing on loan for Wacker Innsbruck.
At first glance, this seems to rule out a move to FC Bayern for the time being. Upon closer inspection, however, the connection to Munich remains. Aucas, LAFC, and Wacker Innsbruck are part of the Red&Gold Network, in which the German record champion is also active.
This allows the Munich-based club to closely monitor the Ecuadorian’s development. His first steps in European soccer, in particular, are likely to be of interest to Bayern’s management.
In Innsbruck, Olaya will have the opportunity to gain regular playing time and acclimate to the athletic demands of European soccer. If he adapts quickly and develops accordingly, a move to Munich could become a real possibility again down the road.
“FC Wacker Innsbruck has a great history and fans who really get behind their team. I’m here to play games and continue developing,” Olaya explained after his move to Austria.
Could he still be a prospect for Bayern in the future?
A direct jump to FC Bayern’s first team would be a huge step in any case. Therefore, a stint with the reserve team could be a viable option initially. From there, Olaya could be gradually brought up to the level of the pros.
Another possibility would be a role as a hybrid player between the academy and the professional squad. Bayern is already pursuing this path with other young talents. Under Vincent Kompany in particular, the aim is to further increase the flow of players from the youth system into the first team.
The fact that Olaya is now playing within the Red&Gold network in Europe makes it considerably easier for the Munich club to monitor his development. A transfer to FC Bayern is by no means guaranteed. However, the conditions are in place to closely track the player and react quickly if his development is positive.
For Olaya, the first test begins in Innsbruck. There, the Ecuadorian can prove himself worthy of the next step. Whether this eventually leads to FC Bayern will likely depend above all on how quickly he establishes himself in European soccer.
