On Saturday, FC Bayern will play an away game at Schalke in the Bundesliga’s evening match at 8:30 p.m. The record champions will aim to secure their fourth win in their fourth competitive match of the new season in Gelsenkirchen.
Bayern are, of course, the overwhelming favorites against the newly promoted team, but caution is warranted. It could be a game with a very good and special atmosphere, which in turn means the Schalke players will go into the match highly motivated.
So an interesting match certainly awaits FC Bayern, who—following their 4-1 Cup win over Osnabrück—will likely make some adjustments and rotate the lineup in one or two positions.
Schalke is eagerly anticipating the match against Bayern
While the match is more of a formality for FC Bayern, this game represents a major challenge for Schalke. But it’s one they’re very eager to take on. No wonder there’s so much anticipation for the showdown with the record champions.
“We’re taking on this challenge; we have to face every team. Bayern is absolutely dominant against any opponent and plays with a real hunger. We’re really looking forward to this game,” explained Schalke coach Miron Muslic at the Royal Blues’ press conference.
The Royal Blues certainly have a great deal of respect for their opponent. “The Bundesliga is returning to the Veltins Arena—something special for us. Bayern Munich is the ultimate challenge for any opponent,” Muslic continued.
New signing Hee-chan Hwang, who was signed shortly before the transfer deadline, is expected to be in the lineup. Edin Dzeko should also get more playing time against Bayern, as Muslic confirmed: “Edin has experience playing against top teams. How many minutes he gets will depend on how the game unfolds. He’s getting fitter by the day.”
