However, if it were up to Vincent Kompany, another big-name player would have joined the team at Säbener Straße. After intensive discussions, though, club officials made a conscious decision against making an additional major transfer.
As reported by Sport BILD, Kompany would have liked to sign a third high-profile player for his squad in addition to Brown and Saibari. The Belgian is said to have made this request known to the club’s leadership.
There was then extensive discussion within the club about how the Munich team intended to shape its roster for the new season. In the end, the coach and club management agreed on a different approach: Instead of spending a lot of money on the transfer market again, the club will place greater emphasis on developing talent from within its own ranks.
Kompany supports Bayern’s new direction
The decision to forego another high-profile signing was therefore not simply imposed on Kompany. Rather, a detailed discussion about squad planning took place between the coach and club management.
The result: Bayern intends to once again place greater emphasis on its own youth academy. Young players are to be systematically developed and integrated into the professional squad as effectively as possible. This is also intended to further increase the flow of players between the academy and the first team.
For Kompany, this approach is by no means new. The 40-year-old has already made it clear in the past that young players get a real chance under him if they earn it through strong performances. At the same time, these young talents are not just meant to fill out the roster but to develop into genuine alternatives for the professional team in the long run.
Especially given a tightly packed schedule, this approach could pay off. The young players are expected to get their chances over the course of the season, thereby providing additional depth to the roster.
Kompany pushed for the signing of Ndiaye
The example of Bara Sapoko Ndiaye also shows that the Bayern coach actively supports the club’s youth development strategy. According to Sport BILD, the 18-year-old’s final signing ultimately took place at Kompany’s urging.
The young midfielder is not merely viewed as a prospect for the academy. Rather, Ndiaye is among the young talents who are to be gradually integrated into the first team.
For Munich, the decision also marks a notable shift in strategy during the summer transfer window. Kompany would certainly have liked to strengthen his roster with another established player. Instead, Bayern is focusing on development.
Brown and Saibari are expected to provide immediate help to the record champions, while talents like Ndiaye will be given the chance to establish themselves at the highest level.
