Ahead of the Bundesliga home game against FC St. Pauli, sporting director Max Eberl has once again emphasized that FC Bayern wants to keep its two leading players Harry Kane and Dayot Upamecano for the long term. The 52-year-old sent out clear signals – both to the players and to the public.
Eberl is extremely confident about Harry Kane. The English superstar, who has worn the Bayern shirt since 2023, has „exactly what he wants“, said the sporting director on Sky. FCB is ready to enter into talks with him: „We would like to continue. We can imagine that very, very well.“
During the week, shortly after the 3-1 away defeat at Arsenal, Eberl had already indicated the same direction on DAZN: „He feels really comfortable with us, we love him – so what’s wrong with that?“ Kane himself had recently made it clear with his own statements that he could stay in Munich beyond 2027. The signing of the 32-year-old is already one of Bayern’s biggest transfers in recent years – both in sporting and atmospheric terms.
Upamecano extension: „The path is crucial“
While no concrete talks have yet been held with Kane, the poker has long been underway with Dayot Upamecano. His contract expires at the end of the current season – and Bayern are pushing for an agreement.
„We absolutely want it. I think we have communicated that sufficiently,“ Eberl emphasized on Sky. The centre-back feels „very, very comfortable“ in Munich, but the sporting director did not want to give a timeline: „I hope for an agreement soon, but I can’t say when.“
It is interesting that Eberl clearly puts the financial aspects into perspective. Upamecano is in his prime – and will earn well wherever he goes. „For him, the general path is decisive,“ he explains. What is meant is the sporting perspective: Kompany, the team’s progress and the 27-year-old’s role as a defender.
Under Vincent Kompany, Upamecano forms the heart of the defence together with Jonathan Tah – one reason why Bayern are keen to clarify his future. The Frenchman is set, in demand internationally, and yet the record champions are still well in the running.
