FC Barcelona have been dagging for Bayern star Joshua Kimmich for some time now. Rumours have been persistent, especially since the appointment of Hansi Flick as the new head coach. Now the Catalans are apparently working on a second offer.
Although Joshua Kimmich rejected FC Barcelona’s first offer, the Spanish top club are now said to be preparing their next bid for the 29-year-old, according to information from Spanish Sport. The main problem for Barça is Kimmich’s salary. He earns around 19 million euros a year at FC Bayern, which would probably not be financially feasible for the Catalans.
However, a move to his former coach Hansi Flick is still not off the table, even if the Blaugrana cannot afford Kimmich’s current salary. It cannot be ruled out that the versatile right-back would be willing to meet the club’s demands. However, there have not yet been any talks about a contract extension in Munich.
Sky reporter Kerry Hau said: „Bayern have not yet made it clear to Kimmich that they want to extend his contract.“ Max Eberl has therefore not clearly communicated to Kimmich that they want to extend his contract after the European Championship.
Vincent Kompany or Hansi Flick?
In addition to the financial aspect, which is currently clearly in favour of FC Bayern, the sporting perspective is probably the most decisive point in Kimmich’s considerations. While the 85-time international has already had the opportunity to train with the German national team and at Säbener Straße under Flick, he still lacks experience with the new FCB coach Vincent Kompany.
At a DFB press conference, Kimmich said of the now resolved coaching issue in Munich: „Of course, it’s also important for my future, but first and foremost it’s important for me what the club thinks. It’s nice that we have one less construction site to deal with“.
According to Spanish media, Real Madrid are also interested in the DFB vice-captain alongside FC Barcelona. Kimmich could therefore take over from Toni Kroos, who will end his career after the home European Championships. However, the first port of call for him is and will probably remain FC Bayern.
