Joao Palhinha almost moved to FC Bayern last summer, but the deal with the defensive midfielder from Fulham FC fell through on deadline day. The Portuguese has now commented on the situation with the German record champions.
Ex-Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel almost got his publicly demanded holding six before the end of the season. Joao Palhinha was on the verge of a move to the Isar, but it fell through as Fulham FC were unable to find a replacement for the 28-year-old in a hurry.
A short time later, the Portuguese extended his contract with the Londoners. Now, in an interviewwith Flashscore, he has once again spoken about FC Bayern and revealed whether he would still be prepared to make the move to Munich.
When asked whether the subject of Bayern Munich is now finally closed for him, Palhinha replied: „I don’t know if it’s a closed door or not, everything in football is very uncertain. I can’t say whether it’s a closed door or an open door.“
At the moment, he could not put himself in such a position either. „Today I want to concentrate more on the European Championship, because that’s the goal, to make a good impression at the Euros, and then everything else will follow,“ he continued.
Failed Bayern transfer a „punch in the gut“
At the end of March, Palhinha told the Portuguese portal O Jogo about the failed transfer to FC Bayern: „It’s a story from the past, but it will of course shape me for the rest of my career. That episode was like a punch in the gut at the time, but life goes on and I can only work hard so that one day I get a similar opportunity.“
Later in the Flashscore interview, he noted that people would already know him because „the fact that I’m playing in the Premier League means I’m in a very big shop window, probably the biggest of them all.“
He then said: „The European Championship is also a showcase that everyone around the world is watching.“ So the Portuguese still seems to be willing to change. Whether he will end up at Bayern after all, however, is questionable.
