After losing the championship and the disastrous performance against Borussia Dortmund, a former FC Bayern professional has spoken out. He has long recognised major problems at the German record champions.

The 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund means that FC Bayern have most likely lost the championship for good. Ex-Bayern professional Markus Babbel believes that these poor performances have been on the cards for some time.

„There’s something fundamentally wrong at FC Bayern,“ said Babbel on Sport1: „It’s about virtues that have been missing for a long time.“

For Babbel, the players have a duty to deliver: „They don’t appear to be registering this,“ the 51-year-old scolded.

However, Babbel has high hopes for Bayern’s new sporting director Max Eberl: „Max Eberl is no fool, he can see that too: his alarm bells are certainly ringing,“ said the former German international.

Babbel sees Champions League in danger

The problems for Babbel were clearly recognisable in the game against BVB. For the expert, it was frightening what Munich showed on the pitch: „It’s a scandal for Bayern Munich when you look at the individual players on the pitch against Dortmund,“ Babbel emphasised.

The 1996 European champion described Bayern’s biggest problem at the moment: „They simply don’t work as a team because they’re not prepared to go the metres that hurt.“

He sees a fundamental mentality problem in the team that did not previously exist at Bayern. With this attitude, Babbel also sees the Champions League in great danger: „They will have a huge problem against Arsenal if they don’t regain their normal form in the coming days and weeks.“
