Ahead of the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart, Max Eberl spoke at length about FC Bayern’s transfer plans, including Anthony Gordon, Kennet Eichhorn and the rumors surrounding John Stones
FC Bayern’s plans for the summer transfer window have long been in full swing. One day before the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart, sporting director Max Eberl spoke openly about Munich’s current squad planning on the fringes of a BILD event
The focus was particularly on Anthony Gordon. The Newcastle United attacker is still seen as Bayern’s preferred solution in attack, although the English club’s high transfer fee remains the big problem
Eberl confirmed the interest in the 25-year-old, but at the same time made it clear that the economic framework conditions remain decisive: „We agree that we will sign an attacking player if he can be financed.“
The Bayern boss was also positive about the talks with the player: „We had a very good discussion and hope that we can move forward.“
Newcastle are currently reportedly asking around €86 million for Gordon, and while Bayern are still considered a promising candidate, they are clearly not prepared to meet every demand for the transfer fee
Bayern are looking at Eichhorn
Hertha talent Kennet Eichhorn also remains an issue at Säbener Straße. The 16-year-old midfielder is one of the most exciting young players in Germany and has a release clause of around twelve million euros
Eberl confirmed that Munich are looking closely at the Berlin native: „I think if you see Kenny Eichhorn – and FC Bayern wouldn’t be interested – then we wouldn’t be doing our job.“
At the same time, the 52-year-old made it clear that a potential transfer is far from a done deal: „Now we have to see if it fits in and what he and his management think. Whether it happens is a completely different matter.“
Clear rejection of Stones rumors
Eberl, on the other hand, was clear about the recent rumors surrounding Manchester City defender John Stones
The Daily Mail had reported an alleged interest from Bayern, but Eberl unequivocally rejected this report: „That’s not true.“

At the same time, the Bayern boss announced that the club would make changes to the squad in the summer – but without a major shake-up
„We will take steps again and rebuild the squad without being radical,“ explained Eberl. He continued: „We have extended a few contracts. We have our squad so far that we won’t be doing much, except perhaps one or two positions.“
One thing is already certain: the contracts of Leon Goretzka and Raphael Guerreiro will not be extended. Nicolas Jackson will also leave the record champions after his loan spell.
