Nathaniel Brown has proven himself to be a versatile player at FC Bayern. The 23-year-old, who transferred from Eintracht Frankfurt to Munich last summer for around 55 million euros, feels most comfortable playing left back. But now the German national team player has revealed that he particularly enjoys playing in a completely different position.
In an interview with Prime Video, Brown spoke about his strengths and his preferred role on the field. The left back made it clear that he by no means sees himself as limited to defensive duties alone.
Particularly interesting: Brown can also envision playing in attacking midfield. The number 10 position is even one of his personal favorites, as he himself explained.
Brown: “I can play almost anywhere.”
When asked about his greatest strengths, the Bayern pro highlighted two qualities in particular. “I think I’m pretty fast and also an intelligent player. Those are probably my greatest qualities,” Brown told Prime Video.
His speed and understanding of the game allow him to take on various roles within a team.
The 23-year-old spoke with confidence about his tactical flexibility. “I’d say I can play almost anywhere,” the defensive player emphasized.
Brown then caught everyone’s attention with an interesting statement about his favorite position. “I really enjoy playing as a number 10, but I’m primarily a left back. That’s why I’d say my favorite position is left back.”
With this, the national team player makes it clear that, despite his offensive preferences, he still sees his most important role as being on defense.
New opportunities for Kompany?

For FC Bayern, Brown’s versatility could prove to be of great value in the long term. Especially in modern soccer, fullbacks are increasingly being involved in building up play and shaping offensive moves.
Brown brings some interesting qualities to the table in this regard. His speed allows him to make repeated runs down the left flank. At the same time, he clearly has the confidence to take on responsibility in central areas as well.
This opens up additional tactical possibilities for coach Vincent Kompany. Especially when facing personnel shortages, the 23-year-old could also be deployed in other positions.
However, FC Bayern already has another top-class left back in Alphonso Davies. Competition for this position is likely to remain intense.
Brown’s comments, however, show that he does not want to define himself solely by a fixed role. Rather, he sees his flexibility as one of his greatest strengths.
