Concerns for Vincent Kompany: The Bayern coach is said to have been taken to a Munich hospital by an emergency medical team on Friday.
After the FC Bayern coach had already been struggling with the effects of a viral infection in recent days, the 40-year-old apparently required medical treatment again on Friday.
According to information from BILD, Kompany was taken to a Munich hospital by an emergency medical team. The report states that a helicopter had previously landed at the training facility on Säbener Straße. No further details regarding the Bayern coach’s current health condition are known at this time.
This development comes just a few days after Kompany’s return to the sidelines. The Belgian had previously missed several training sessions due to a viral infection. Although he was able to deliver the pre-game pep talk during the 6-1 win over RB Leipzig, he was clearly physically weakened.
According to BILD, Kompany had to lie down on the sofa in his coaching booth at times, both during halftime and after the game. The viral infection is also said to have caused problems with old scar tissue and, among other things, made it difficult for him to climb stairs.
Kompany had made his return against Arsenal
On Monday, Kompany was absent from training at Säbener Straße and, according to BILD, was once again thoroughly examined by Bayern’s medical staff, led by team internist Prof. Dr. Roland Schmidt. A day later, he was also unable to lead the final training session ahead of the Champions League match against Arsenal.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks had already urged caution ahead of the Arsenal match. “The most important thing we’re encouraging him to do right now is to rest and take the time he needs—no matter how long that may take,” the Englishman explained.
On Wednesday, however, Kompany returned and was back on the sidelines for the 2-2 draw against Arsenal. After the game, he spoke openly about how he had initially ignored his body’s warning signs.
“As a coach, you always want to do everything and give it your all. I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn’t listen to my body—and then at some point, my body just said, ‘Enough is enough!’” Kompany said.
