FC Bayern is apparently already planning its next major transfer. The Munich club is specifically looking for a new left winger for the summer.
At FC Bayern, planning for the upcoming season is apparently already in full swing. While, as things stand, no major transfer activity is planned for the winter, the Munich club is already setting its sights on the summer.
There appears to be a clear priority: FC Bayern is looking for a new left winger who can take some of the pressure off Luis Díaz and provide competition for the Colombian.
Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg made it clear that club officials are already working intensively on possible solutions. “The fact is: They’re already preparing things for the summer. It’s going to be expensive.”
The transfer market is thus likely to play a central role for Bayern again, at the latest, after the end of the season. While the focus has recently been primarily on the futures of Harry Kane and Michael Olise, it is now becoming clear that the Munich club also wants to invest further in its offense.
There is a particular need for action on the left side. Díaz is currently virtually unchallenged in that position. While Serge Gnabry, Ismael Saibari, or other offensive players can fill in there, there is no classic alternative with a similar profile.
Bayern is specifically looking for a backup for Díaz
Plettenberg was even more specific about the position they’re targeting: “They’re desperately looking for a new left winger. He’ll also arrive this summer as a backup for Luis Díaz.”
This seems to make it clear that FC Bayern actually intends to make a move for this position this summer—and isn’t just casually monitoring the market.
One name that has already come up in this context is Antonio Nusa of RB Leipzig. The Norwegian was recently mentioned as a possible long-term alternative to Díaz. It had already been reported that Bayern were keeping an eye on the 21-year-old.
A potential transfer would be expensive, however. RB Leipzig is reportedly demanding a high transfer fee for Nusa. This is precisely why Plettenberg’s remark that the planned summer moves could be “costly” fits right into the picture.
However, the new information from Sky does not indicate whether Nusa is actually Bayern’s top choice. The only thing that is certain is that club officials have identified the left-wing attacking position as an area in need of improvement.
The timing is also interesting. Apparently, no moves on the transfer market are currently planned for January. Bayern intends to get through the current season with the existing roster and make major investments only in the summer.
This suggests that club officials are planning for the long term and do not want to rely on short-term solutions. At the same time, the pressure on Díaz will remain high until then. The Colombian is virtually a starter under Vincent Kompany and is one of the team’s most important offensive players.
That is apparently set to change this summer. Bayern plans to bring in an additional high-caliber option—and is apparently willing to dig deep into its pockets once again to do so.
