The FC Bayern women’s team has secured long-term stability in a key position. Goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic has extended her contract, which was originally set to run through 2027, ahead of schedule and committed herself to the Munich club through June 30, 2029.
The 22-year-old joined the German record champions from MSV Duisburg in the summer of 2024 and has become a mainstay in Munich. With Bayern, she has already won two doubles and two Super Cups. Now, the partnership is set to continue for the long term.
“I feel very at home here and have already had two great years in which I’ve been able to develop both athletically and personally. Moving to Munich was a bold step at the time, but for me, it was absolutely the right decision,” Mahmutovic said on the occasion of her contract extension.
Bayern sees a “bright future” for Mahmutovic
The German national team player is also highly regarded within the club. Bianca Rech, Director of Women’s Soccer at FC Bayern, described the extension as “a valuable signal for the continued development of our team, as having a stable, top-class number one as a foundation always plays a central role.”
Rech particularly highlighted Mahmutovic’s development since her arrival in Munich. “Ena has steadily improved since joining us two years ago and demonstrates every day, both on and off the field, the professionalism and ambition with which she works.”
Despite her young age, the goalkeeper already stands out for her composure. Rech also praised her quick reflexes, her courage, and her soccer skills. Her conclusion: “We’re convinced that she has a bright future ahead of her at FC Bayern.”
Mahmutovic dreams of an international title
Mahmutovic herself feels she has long since settled in after two years in Munich. She says she now feels “right at home” at FC Bayern. With her contract extension, the 22-year-old is therefore already setting her sights on her next big goals.
“My big goal is to win an international trophy with Bayern and to win even more titles together at the national level as well. I’m really looking forward to the coming years and to continuing to be part of this special club.”
Mahmutovic began her career at MSV Duisburg. There, she made the leap from the youth team to the pros and made her Bundesliga debut at just 16 years old—curiously, initially as a field player due to the team’s personnel situation at the time.
After her move to Munich, she made her competitive debut for Bayern in November 2024. A month later, she also played her first senior international match for Germany against Italy. In the summer of 2025, Mahmutovic was subsequently named to the German squad for the European Championship.
With this new contract running through 2029, Bayern is now making it clear: Mahmutovic is expected to continue playing a central role in goal for the Munich women’s team in the coming years.
