At FC Bayern, the question of possible winter transfers remains open. The numerous injuries in recent weeks have made it clear that the German record champions’ roster offers only limited alternatives in certain positions. Sports director Max Eberl, however, does not want to make any hasty decisions. Above all, the imminent return of Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz plays an important role in these considerations.
Ahead of the Bundesliga away game against Mainz 05, the 53-year-old spoke to DAZN about the club’s current transfer plans. Eberl made it clear that the Munich club would first like to wait and see how the roster situation develops after the upcoming international break.
“We’ll take a calm look at that. Jamal is coming back after the international break. Díaz is coming back,” explained the Bayern boss. With that, Eberl hinted that the return of the two attacking stars could significantly reduce the need for action in the transfer market.
Eberl highlights strong performance against Atlético
The team has recently proven in impressive fashion that Bayern can remain competitive even with a severely depleted roster.
In their 2-0 away win against Atlético Madrid, the Munich side had to do without several key offensive players. Nevertheless, the team led by interim coach Aaron Danks delivered a cohesive performance and secured three crucial points in the Champions League.
For Eberl, this success is proof that the quality of the current roster remains high.
However, the sporting director also knows that the strain caused by the tight schedule must not be underestimated. Especially with games every three days, Bayern needs sufficient alternatives to be able to regularly give their key players a break.
The club’s leadership therefore intends to carefully assess whether the current roster is sufficiently deep for the second half of the season.
In any case, Eberl’s statements do not suggest a blanket rejection of winter transfers.
Even before the trip to Madrid, the Bayern boss had confirmed that the Munich club continues to monitor the transfer market. At the same time, he emphasized his confidence in the current team.
Musiala and Díaz could reduce the need for transfers

The key factor now will likely be how quickly the injured attacking players are fully available again.
Jamal Musiala has already taken an important step forward following his muscle injury. The German national team player participated in team training for the first time on Thursday.
Luis Díaz is also working toward his return. The Colombian recently completed his first individual training sessions and is expected to be fully reintegrated into team training after the international break.
In contrast, Munich will have to do without Serge Gnabry and Ismael Saibari for significantly longer.
While Gnabry could be sidelined until the winter break based on current assessments, Saibari is expected to be out even longer following his syndesmotic ligament tear.
As a result, there may still be a need to make moves, particularly on the left wing.
According to information from Sky, Bayern is exploring various options to strengthen its offense this winter. This could include either a loan or bringing forward a transfer originally planned for the summer.
Most recently, Oskar Pietuszewski of FC Porto and Chelsea prospect Estêvão, among others, have been linked with the German record champions.
Whether Munich actually takes action will likely depend largely on how the injured players’ conditions develop.
For now, Eberl is opting for patience. If Musiala and Díaz return as hoped, Bayern could initially rely on an internal solution. If, on the other hand, the squad remains stretched thin, the discussion about winter transfers is likely to pick up steam again quickly.
