FC Bayern has secured the long-term commitment of one of its top performers. Goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic has extended her contract early through 2029.
The FC Bayern women’s team has secured long-term planning stability in a key position. Goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic has extended her contract—which was originally set to run through 2027—early by two additional years, through June 30, 2029 . The Munich-based club officially announced this on Thursday.
With this move, the German champions have secured one of Europe’s most sought-after young goalkeepers. According to BILD, numerous top international clubs had shown interest in the 22-year-old. Mahmutovic, however, decided to stay in Munich.
The German national team player joined FC Bayern from MSV Duisburg in 2024 and has since established herself as the team’s No. 1. With the Munich team, she has already won the double twice, as well as two Super Cups.
“I’m very happy to have extended my contract with FC Bayern. I feel very comfortable here and have already had two great years in which I’ve been able to develop both athletically and personally. Moving to Munich was a bold step at the time, but for me, it was absolutely the right decision,” Mahmutovic explained.
Bayern sees Mahmutovic as their long-term number one
Bianca Rech also attaches great importance to the contract extension. The director of women’s soccer described a “stable, top-class No. 1” as an important foundation for long-term squad planning.
Rech went on to explain: “Ena has steadily improved since joining us two years ago and demonstrates every day, both on and off the field, the professionalism and ambition with which she works. Despite her young age, she already displays remarkable composure in her play and possesses outstanding qualities overall: she’s quick to react, courageous, and a strong soccer player. We’re convinced that she has a bright future ahead of her at FC Bayern.”
Mahmutovic herself still has big plans with Bayern, especially on the international stage. “We have a lot ahead of us together in the future: My big goal is to win an international trophy with Bayern and to win even more titles together at the national level as well.”
In the 2-2 draw against Manchester City in their Champions League opener, the goalkeeper once again demonstrated her qualities. After conceding a penalty herself, she saved the resulting shot by Khadija Shaw.
Mahmutovic could also take on an even bigger role with the national team in the future. At the 2025 European Championship, she was still the number two behind Ann-Kathrin Berger. Rech believes she has what it takes to rise to the top in the future: “Ena knows what she wants. She’s extremely mature, even though she’s still so young. Ena is the future of the national team.”
At FC Bayern, this question of the future has already been settled: The Munich club is counting on Mahmutovic as its number one in the long term.
