Bryan Zaragoza’s future at FC Bayern appears to be taking shape more and more clearly. According to Mundo Deportivo, the winger—currently on loan to Espanyol—has already agreed to a long-term contract with the Catalan club.
According to the report, Zaragoza and Espanyol have reached an agreement to continue their partnership through 2032. The new contract is set to take effect as soon as his current loan from FC Bayern ends on June 30 and Espanyol exercises the agreed-upon purchase option.
For Munich, the Spaniard’s permanent departure would mean additional transfer revenue. The purchase option is reportedly set at eight million euros.
However, Espanyol apparently cannot decide on the signing entirely on its own. According to Mundo Deportivo, the purchase option is tied to two specific conditions.
Two conditions will determine the Zaragoza transfer
The first condition relates to Espanyol’s on-field success. The club must avoid relegation from La Liga for the third consecutive season. Only if the Catalans remain in the top flight this season can this condition be met.
Espanyol has gotten off to a good start in the new season and, after five games, sits in 8th place in Spain’s La Liga with nine points.
In addition, Zaragoza’s personal playing time plays a decisive role. The winger must play more than 45 minutes in at least 20 matches. So far, the forward has logged only 25 minutes of playing time across two games.
This means that part of his future lies in his own hands. If Zaragoza manages to establish himself permanently at Espanyol and consistently rack up significant playing time, a permanent transfer will move closer to reality.
In any case, the agreement on the contract shows that both sides are fundamentally interested in a long-term partnership. For Zaragoza, this could mark the definitive end of his chapter with FC Bayern.
Bayern stands to receive eight million euros
The Munich club had originally signed Zaragoza, but the Spaniard was unable to establish himself permanently with the German record champions. This led to a series of loan spells to ensure the attacking player received regular playing time.
Now, a permanent solution is on the horizon. If both conditions are met and Espanyol exercises its purchase option for eight million euros, Zaragoza would not return to Munich after his loan expires.
For FC Bayern, this would also bring clarity regarding a player who, from a sporting perspective, has not played a major role in long-term plans recently.
However, the move is not yet a done deal. The decisive factors for now are whether Espanyol avoids relegation and Zaragoza’s playing time. The contractual basis for a permanent transfer, however, appears to already be in place.
Should both conditions be met, Zaragoza’s future is set: Instead of returning to Munich, the winger would remain with Espanyol long-term—on a contract through 2032.
