The report recently caused quite a stir: Although Robert Lewandowski left FC Barcelona in the summer of 2026, it appeared that the Catalans still owed FC Bayern more than 11 million euros for the Polish player’s transfer. At first glance, that’s exactly what the Spanish club’s latest financial report suggests.
But this interpretation is apparently incorrect. As reported by the BILD podcast “Bayern Insider,” FC Bayern received all outstanding payments for Lewandowski long ago. According to the report, Barcelona no longer has any outstanding liabilities to the German record champions from the transfer.
Although the 11.091 million euros reported in the financial report stem from the Lewandowski deal, according to the new information, they do not represent a debt owed to FC Bayern.
The key point: Apparently, a bank has taken over the corresponding claim and paid the outstanding amount to the Munich club. Barcelona therefore no longer has to repay the money to Bayern, but rather to the financial institution.
Bayern has already received its money
Lewandowski transferred from FC Bayern to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022. The transfer fee was not paid in full at once at the time, but rather in several installments.
In Barcelona’s financial report for the 2025–26 season, 11.091 million euros related to the transfer still appeared as of the reporting date of June 30, 2026. A year earlier, the figure had been 10.688 million euros.
At first glance, it therefore seemed obvious that Barça still owed Bayern a sum in the millions. However, according to information from BILD, that is not the case. Barcelona reportedly did not transfer the outstanding amount directly to the German record champions. Instead, a bank assumed the payment obligation and settled the debt with the Munich club. Bayern has thus received the full amount from the Lewandowski transfer, just as Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen publicly emphasized at FC Bayern’s annual general meeting last year.
This also explains why the amount continues to appear in the Catalans’ records. The obligation has apparently not disappeared for Barcelona; it has merely changed creditors.
The reported 11.091 million euros likely reflects Barcelona’s outstanding obligation to the bank.
For FC Bayern, one thing is crucial above all else: The Munich club is no longer waiting for money from the Lewandowski transfer.
