What a story for Jamal Musiala! The FC Bayern attacking star created a very special moment in the Champions League opener against Bodø/Glimt. In his return to the starting lineup, of all times, Musiala scored the 900th European Cup goal in the history of Germany’s record champions.
Even before the match, it was clear that the Munich team needed just one more goal to reach this historic milestone. Bayern had entered the match with 899 goals in the Champions League and the former European Cup.
Now the magical 900 has been reached—and the name of the player who scored the milestone goal could hardly be more symbolic. Of all people, Musiala, who had recently gone through a difficult period marked by significant health issues, has etched his name into FC Bayern’s history books.
For the 23-year-old, the match against Bodø/Glimt was also his first competitive game since his return in which he was back in the starting lineup.
Musiala Makes Bayern History
With this goal, Musiala has not only taken an important personal step toward regaining his former form. He also ensured that FC Bayern became only the second club ever to reach the 900-goal mark in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
Before the Munich club, only Real Madrid had achieved this feat. The “Royals” remain well ahead at the top with 1,139 goals. With this milestone goal, however, Bayern has once again underscored its status as one of the most influential teams in the history of European club competition.
The story behind the goal scorer is particularly emotional. Musiala had been struggling with health setbacks in recent months. After his collapses due to a neurological dysfunction, Bayern had carefully reintegrated their star forward back into the team.
Most recently, Musiala had already logged more than 30 minutes of playing time in the 0-0 draw at Schalke. Against Bodø/Glimt, Vincent Kompany showed his trust in him by starting him for the first time since his return.
The Bayern coach had emphasized just before kickoff that this was purely a performance-based decision: “Yes, for me it’s really all about performance right now. Jamal has earned this opportunity; he’s actually been training very well with us.”

Kompany had repeatedly made it clear recently that things should return to normal regarding Musiala. “Our approach to Jamal is very down-to-earth, and accordingly, these remain objective decisions based on the information I have.”
Before the match, the Belgian hoped that Musiala would be able to carry his strong performances from training over to the field: “If everything goes well today and he shows what he’s shown in training, then it’ll be fun for the fans.”
That’s exactly what happened—and Musiala immediately added a historic touch to his return to the starting lineup.
