In recent weeks, FC Bayern has been working feverishly to find a buyer for Sacha Boey. However, a transfer for the 25-year-old is now looking increasingly unlikely. With the transfer window in Saudi Arabia now closed as well, the Munich club is slowly running out of options.
Even after the 0-0 draw at FC Schalke 04, Max Eberl hadn’t given up hope of a last-minute transfer. “There are still transfer windows open. Let’s see what happens,” explained the sporting director.
According to information from BILD, talks with clubs from Saudi Arabia were underway at that time. Boey himself is said to have been generally open to a move to the Saudi Pro League. However, it appears that no agreement was reached. The transfer window there has since closed.
This means one of the last realistic options for Boey’s departure has fallen through. Transfers can no longer be made in Turkey either. Both markets were most recently considered possible destinations for the French right back.
Bayern are running out of realistic options
While there are still some countries in Europe where the transfer window remains open—including Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania—it seems extremely unlikely that Boey will move to one of these leagues at short notice.
Bayern would first have to find a club willing to meet the rumored transfer fee of around 15 million euros. At the same time, Boey would have to agree to such a move. The Frenchman’s salary could also pose an additional hurdle, whether in a sale or a potential loan.
Everything therefore points to Boey remaining with the German record champions at least until the winter.
From a sporting perspective, the situation is difficult for the former Galatasaray player. Even before the start of the season, Bayern officials had made it clear that they would not stand in his way if a suitable offer came along.
Boey was not included in the roster for either the 5-1 win over VfB Stuttgart or the subsequent 0-0 draw at Schalke. Munich’s management also wanted to prevent a potential injury from jeopardizing a last-minute transfer.
Freund announces his return to the squad
However, if no transfer opportunity does indeed materialize, Bayern intends to fully reintegrate Boey into the team. Sporting director Christoph Freund had already announced this scenario. “If it turns out that all transfer windows are closed and he stays here, then he will be a regular member of our team,” Freund explained.
At the same time, the Bayern boss made it clear that the defender had behaved professionally despite the difficult situation: “He has always conducted himself impeccably, trained well, and had a great preseason.”
Boey still has a contract in Munich through 2028. Even though he’s likely to become an option for Vincent Kompany again, the fundamental situation hasn’t changed much.
FC Bayern is therefore likely to make another attempt to find a buyer by winter at the latest. Until then, Boey will have to prove himself again through training and potential appearances. After the failed sale this summer, there are certainly many indications that the Frenchman will remain at Säbener Straße for the time being.
