With just a few days left in the summer transfer window, FC Bayern continues its search for a buyer for Sacha Boey. Now, a solution might surprisingly emerge within the Bundesliga. Hamburg SV is reportedly interested in the French right-back.
Boey is at the top of the German record champions’ list of players to be let go. The Munich club has already made it clear to the 25-year-old that he no longer plays a role in their sporting plans. Sporting director Max Eberl recently confirmed publicly that Bayern would like to part ways with the Frenchman.
So far, however, no concrete suitor has emerged. In addition to a return to Galatasaray Istanbul, another option could now be on the horizon.
HSV apparently has Boey on their radar
As reported by the Hamburger Morgenpost, Boey is on Hamburger SV’s shortlist. HSV has been searching for a new right back for weeks and has not yet found a suitable solution for this position.
From a sporting perspective, the Bayern player would be a significant reinforcement for Hamburg. However, a transfer involves considerable financial hurdles.
According to the report, the Hamburg club cannot afford the rumored transfer fee of around 15 million euros. A permanent transfer is therefore unlikely to be realistic. Should HSV indeed make a serious push for Boey, a loan deal would likely be the only option.
But even this model would be financially challenging for the Bundesliga club. Boey’s salary at FC Bayern is likely to be significantly higher than what HSV can normally afford to pay a player. For a deal to happen, the parties involved would therefore likely have to find a creative solution.
Bayern is open to talks regarding Boey
One thing is clear, however: Bayern is likely to be open in principle to an approach from Hamburg. Eberl recently made the right-back’s situation unmistakably clear.
“We’ve clearly communicated our thoughts regarding Sacha. We’d like to let him go,” explained Bayern’s sporting director.
Boey joined Munich from Galatasaray in January 2024 for around 30 million euros. However, he was never able to consistently live up to the high expectations at the record champions. Injuries repeatedly set him back, and competition for the right-back position is fierce.
Now time is running out for all parties involved. The Bundesliga’s summer transfer window closes next Tuesday at 8 p.m. By then, HSV would need to finalize a potential loan deal.
For Bayern, Boey’s departure would be the final major step in streamlining the roster. Following the recent sales and loan deals, the Frenchman remains the player for whom Max Eberl still hopes to find a solution by Deadline Day.
