The summer transfer window is entering its final, intense phase. FC Bayern has only a few days left to finalize its remaining roster decisions. While virtually nothing is expected to happen on the incoming side, one departure is still on the minds of club officials.
Sports director Max Eberl recently made it clear that there is a 99 percent chance the Munich club will not sign any more players. This means Nathaniel Brown, Ismael Saibari, and Bara Ndiaye remain the three new signings of the summer.
Bayern has also recently found important solutions regarding players up for sale. Bryan Zaragoza has left the record champions for Espanyol Barcelona. The Spaniard initially moved on loan, though a mandatory buyout clause was agreed upon. The club also succeeded in securing the desired permanent transfer of Joao Palhinha to Benfica Lisbon.
That leaves only one major transfer issue remaining: Sacha Boey.
Eberl makes it clear: “We’d like to let him go.”
The right-back no longer plays a role in Munich’s sporting plans. If a solution isn’t found by the end of the transfer window, the Frenchman faces a difficult half-year with little prospect of playing time.
Eberl has made no secret of the situation recently. “We’ve clearly communicated our thoughts to Sacha. We’d like to let him go,” explained Bayern’s sporting director.
According to Eberl, the fact that Boey was recently absent from the record champions’ marketing campaigns is also linked to the Frenchman’s uncertain future. “We’ll see what happens between now and September 1,” said the 52-year-old, leaving the future open.
Boey moved from Galatasaray Istanbul to Munich in January 2024 for around 30 million euros. However, he was never able to establish himself permanently at FC Bayern and was repeatedly sidelined by injuries.
In the second half of last season, the 25-year-old returned to Galatasaray on loan. The Turkish club held a buyout option worth around 15 million euros but chose not to exercise it over the summer.
Galatasaray could still pay Bayern a transfer fee after all
Now, a surprise reunion could be on the horizon. The Turkish website Fanatik recently reported that Galatasaray is once again showing interest in Boey.
According to the report, both another loan and a permanent transfer under revised financial terms are on the table. Boey himself is also said to be generally open to another return to Istanbul.
For FC Bayern, there’s a key advantage here: While the transfer window in many top European leagues closes on September 1, Turkish clubs can still sign new players until September 4.
This would give Eberl and his team a few extra days to finally resolve their last major transfer issue. Following the departures of Zaragoza and Palhinha, a Boey transfer would be the final step in finalizing the roster for the new season.
