There could be more activity on the transfer market for FC Bayern this summer. Although sporting director Max Eberl has described further signings as rather unlikely, the Bayern boss has not ruled them out entirely.
Ahead of the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart, Max Eberl commented on possible further transfers. In doing so, he left at least a small backdoor open.
“99 percent no,” Eberl replied when asked whether FC Bayern would sign any more players. This suggests that the Munich club has largely finalized its roster planning.
With Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, the record champions have already signed two high-profile newcomers this summer. In addition, they have signed 18-year-old Bara Sapoko Ndiaye to a permanent contract. The club at Säbener Straße thus considers itself well-positioned for the upcoming season.
However, Eberl did not want to rule anything out entirely: “As long as the transfer window is open, you can never say for sure 100 percent,” the sporting director emphasized.
Door remains open for a last-minute deal
This means that, at least in theory, the possibility of a late transfer remains. Should an unexpected opportunity arise in the coming days or should a new need develop for a specific position, Bayern could still take action.
“Later on, a player might become available on a free transfer, and I wouldn’t be able to sign him because I said 100 percent. That’s why I say 99 percent,” Eberl explained.
However, such a deal would have to fit very precisely within the club’s sporting and financial strategy. Eberl’s statement should therefore be understood primarily as a precautionary measure. The Bayern boss did not announce any specific signing. At the same time, he knows from experience that opportunities can still arise on the transfer market right up until the last day.
So at Bayern, 99 percent suggests there won’t be another new signing. The remaining one percent, however, ensures that a last-minute transfer isn’t completely ruled out.
