The transfer is now official: Wisdom Mike is leaving FC Bayern to join the historic Belgian club Club Brugge.
The next departure from FC Bayern is official. After the transfer had already been in the works for the past few days, the Munich club confirmed Wisdom Mike’s move to Club Brugge on Thursday.
This brings the 17-year-old’s time with the German record champions to an end after four years. Mike moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach’s youth academy to the FC Bayern Campus in the summer of 2022 and worked his way up step by step to the first team.
In total, the offensive player made five appearances for Bayern’s first team. Last year, he was also part of the Munich squad at the Club World Cup in the U.S. Now, Mike is set to continue his development in Belgium.
Sports Director Christoph Freund praised not only the youngster’s athletic development as he departed: “Weezy joined the FC Bayern Campus at age 13, continued to develop steadily with us, made his professional debut just two days after his 17th birthday, and became a member of the German junior national team. In addition to his athletic qualities, he stands out for his great character. We wish him all the best for his future.”
Bayern receives five million euros for Mike
FC Bayern did not provide any financial details in its statement. According to information from Sky, the Munich club will receive a fixed transfer fee of five million euros for Mike. The amount could rise even further in the future through bonus payments.
According to the report, no buyback option was agreed upon. Instead, the German record champions secured a share of any future transfer fee. Should Mike develop well at Bruges and later move on for a transfer fee, Bayern would once again profit from the attacking player.
Before the transfer was finalized, Mike had already passed his medical exam in Belgium and subsequently signed his contract with Club Brugge. With Bayern’s official confirmation, the transfer is now complete.
This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the youngster. At FC Bayern, the competition for a spot on the first team was fierce, and his development had recently been slowed by an injury. In Bruges, Mike is now set to get the chance to gain regular playing time at a higher level.
The German junior national team player is leaving Munich having already won his first professional titles. With FC Bayern, he celebrated the German championship and the Super Cup victory. Off the field as well, Mike made his mark at the record-holding champions, completing, among other things, his volunteer service in elite sports within the club.
After four years on campus, their paths are now diverging. For Bayern, the transfer means revenue in the millions; for Mike, it represents the chance to take the next step in his still-young career.
