Felix Kroos even believes that the Munich team will be the favorites in the possible quarter-finals, regardless of whether Real Madrid or Manchester City will be their opponents
The record champions are practically on course for the quarter-finals after their 6:1 first-leg victory over Atalanta Bergamo, while in the other round of 16 clash there are many indications that Real Madrid, who won the first leg against Manchester City 3:0, will progress
But regardless of which opponent awaits Munich, Felix Kroos believes FC Bayern are currently the favorites
Kroos sees Bayern in top form
The former Bundesliga professional bases his assessment primarily on the current form of Vincent Kompany’s team: „So no matter who it is, whether it’s City or Real: For me, Bayern will be the favorites in the game,“ Kroos explained in an interview with sport.de
Munich’s recent performances in particular have shown how stable and dangerous the team currently is, and with the potential quarter-final matches taking place soon, their current form is a decisive factor. „Just based on the form they’re in now, I think FC Bayern will go into this game as favourites.“
Despite his clear assessment, however, Kroos stressed that being favorites in the Champions League does not automatically mean anything: „It doesn’t mean that they will progress, because we know that Champions League evenings are always special,“ he explained
Teams like Real Madrid in particular have exceptional experience in this competition and know exactly how to react at crucial moments, he added
Real and City vulnerable according to Kroos
Another reason for his prediction: both Real Madrid and Manchester City have repeatedly shown weaknesses this season. „Neither of them are stable, they have been all season. There are always weak games and they are absolutely vulnerable,“ said Kroos
The former professional is therefore convinced that Bayern could well have the better cards in a possible quarter-final: „I firmly believe that Bayern – no matter who they face – will go into this quarter-final as the favorites.“
