Heavy snowfall makes for difficult conditions in Munich. Can FC Bayern’s Bundesliga home match against Eintracht Frankfurt go ahead as planned?
Ahead of the clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Bayern are not only looking at their opponents, but also at the skies above Munich. The heavy snowfall has had the city firmly in its grip since Thursday. Nevertheless, everything currently points to the match being able to kick off as planned at 3.30pm on Saturday
As reported by BILD, the club is working closely with the weather consulting company EWB. Temperatures are expected to rise to between 5 and 7 degrees on the day of the match, making large amounts of snow unlikely. Those responsible have taken extensive measures to ensure that the Allianz Arena is playable
High-tech deployment around the Allianz Arena
The greenkeepers clear the pitch, while the pitch heating system also helps to melt any remaining snow. This is supported by modern grow lights, which illuminate the pitch with red and blue light, creating a violet effect for photosynthesis and providing targeted heat at the same time
The roof of the arena was also cleared of snow – this time not by helicopter, but by specialist climbers. The access routes to the stadium are cleared by snow clearing vehicles. An additional 50 external helpers are on standby for short-term assignments on match day
FC Bayern, on the other hand, cannot influence the fans‘ journey to the stadium. Motorways and public transport are outside the club’s responsibility. This is exactly what led to the cancellation of the match against Union Berlin during the severe onset of winter in December 2023. However, it currently looks as though the match against Frankfurt can take place
The snowfall had already affected training for the professionals on Thursday. There was even a brief snowball fight at the beginning before club employees had to clear the pitches several times. Before the final training session on Friday, the pitches were cleared again and the snow was removed with heavy equipment.
