FC Bayern has clarified Javi Fernández’s future for the time being—the Spanish midfielder will remain on loan at 1. FC Nürnberg for another year.
FC Bayern has officially confirmed its latest personnel decision. As the record champions have now announced, the loan of young player Javi Fernández to 1. FC Nürnberg will be extended. The 19-year-old Spaniard will thus remain with the historic Franconian club for the upcoming season and is expected to continue gaining valuable playing experience at a high level there.
Fernández was already on loan to Nuremberg last season and was able to make significant strides in his development there. The club at Säbener Straße has reportedly been very satisfied with his progress so far, which is why the management has now decided to continue the partnership between all parties.
Sporting Director Christoph Freund explained why Bayern continues to view this path as the right one: „Despite a few setbacks due to injuries, Javi has developed well and gained valuable experience at 1. FC Nürnberg.“
Extending the loan is the „right move“
„Extending the loan is the right step for his continued development. We are convinced that he will get the necessary playing time at the club and look forward to continuing to closely follow his progress,“ added Freund.

The player himself was also pleased with the decision and is looking forward to the upcoming season: „I’m very happy to be able to continue playing for Nuremberg. The past year has helped me tremendously, and I want to continue on this path.“
FC Bayern has long pursued a strategy of introducing young talents to professional soccer through targeted loan moves. In particular, players who currently have no realistic prospect of regular playing time in Munich are encouraged to gain playing experience at other clubs and develop further under competitive conditions.
By extending the loan, Bayern is now consistently continuing this plan with Fernández as well. Internally, the defensive player continues to enjoy great trust and is considered a player with long-term potential.
For Nuremberg, the decision also means planning security. The second-division club can continue to rely on a talented player who already gained valuable experience last season.
