FC Bayern has suffered another setback in the transfer saga surrounding Sacha Boey. A last-minute move by the right back to Fulham will not materialize. This means time is finally running out for the Munich club regarding their last major transfer target.
On Tuesday, reports circulated that Boey was in talks with Fulham. The Premier League club was looking to strengthen its right side of defense and had apparently set its sights on the 25-year-old as a potential option.
However, as transfer insider Matteo Moretto now reports, the potential deal has fallen through. The reason for this lies not with Boey or FC Bayern, but with Kenny Tete.
Fulham backs away from Boey transfer
According to the report, Fulham had only planned to bring in Boey as a replacement for Tete. Since the Dutchman will not be leaving the London club after all, the English Premier League side no longer has a need for a right back. A move by the Bayern pro to London is thus off the table.
For those in charge at Säbener Straße, this development is particularly bitter. Boey has been considered a candidate for a sale for quite some time. The Munich club has been searching intensively for a buyer for the Frenchman in recent weeks, but so far without success.
Sporting Director Max Eberl had already made it clear publicly that Bayern would not stand in the way of the fullback’s departure if a suitable offer were to come along. Boey now plays only a minor role in the team’s sporting plans.
Now, however, time is becoming the decisive factor. For most top European leagues, the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday evening. This significantly narrows the options for a last-minute departure.
Is Turkey the only remaining option?
Nevertheless, a departure for Boey isn’t entirely out of the question. In some countries, the transfer window remains open longer. This includes Turkey, among others, where transfers can still be made until September 4.
A return to the Süper Lig wouldn’t be an entirely new option for Boey. The Frenchman knows the Turkish league very well and played for Galatasaray before his move to FC Bayern. In the past, there has been repeated speculation about a possible return to Turkey.
However, it remains to be seen whether a concrete opportunity will actually arise in the coming days. One thing is clear: with the Fulham deal falling through, another promising option has been ruled out.
If no buyer is found by the end of the current transfer window, Boey would have to stay in Munich—at least for the time being. For FC Bayern, that would be an unsatisfactory end to the summer transfer window—after all, the Frenchman is now the last major transfer issue on the record champion’s roster.
