Vincent Kompany leaves nothing to chance at FC Bayern. The Munich head coach has introduced a new rule designed to ensure his team remains fully focused immediately before competitive matches.
As reported by Sport BILD, a so-called “48-hour rule” is now in effect at Bayern. Under this rule, the players are not allowed to leave the city of Munich in the two days leading up to a competitive match. Long-distance travel is strictly prohibited during this period.
Notably, the rule applies even if Kompany grants his players a day off from training within those 48 hours. A day off does not automatically mean that the Bayern stars are allowed to leave Munich and, for example, take a short trip abroad.
Behind this measure lies a clear message from the coach: In the immediate run-up to a match, everything should be focused on the upcoming game.
Full concentration before every competitive match
Kompany is thus strengthening discipline within his squad. Especially given Munich’s tight schedule, recovery and preparation between two matches can be crucial.
Bayern are once again competing in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup, and the Champions League this season. Especially during weeks with international matches, there are often only a few days between individual games.
With his new rule, Kompany apparently wants to prevent his players from using these short recovery periods for additional personal travel, which has happened time and again in the past. Even when no training is scheduled, they are expected to stay in Munich and focus on the next task at hand.
Kompany sets clear guidelines
The new policy aligns with the leadership style Kompany has established at the German record champions. The Belgian relies on clear rules while also expecting a high degree of professionalism and personal responsibility from his players.
The fact that the 40-year-old does not want to tolerate any distractions, especially immediately before games, further underscores his enormous drive for success. Kompany has set high goals for the current season and has openly stated that winning the Champions League is one of them.
This ambition is also well-received within the club. According to information from Sport BILD, the supervisory board and club management believe that Kompany actively embodies FC Bayern’s drive for success.
The “48-hour rule” now shows that this goes beyond mere ambitious statements. Kompany demands that his team meet the necessary conditions in their day-to-day lives to live up to these expectations.
