Joshua Kimmich and FC Bayern deservedly beat VfB Stuttgart 3-0 in the final of the DFB Cup. Despite the clear result, the victory was hard work for Kimmich
With a highly committed but not always dominant performance over 90 minutes, FC Bayern secured the title in the cup final against VfB Stuttgart. Joshua Kimmich’s first words after the final whistle were not only directed at the team, but at the entire club, because he „already noticed how the staff, the whole club, all the employees work their asses off every day“, Kimmich told ARD
The midfielder continued: „Everyone was very, very happy that we were finally back in Berlin. Of course, we wanted to win the thing ourselves, for ourselves, for our families, but also for the club, because it’s something very, very special.“
Due to the positive momentum that has developed in the current season, it was therefore extremely important to Kimmich not only to ensure sporting success in the cup final, but also to „give something back“ at the same time
Kimmich: „Didn’t get into the game well“
Despite all the celebrations, Kimmich was also self-critical in the ARD interview. When asked whether the 3-0 win was a work in progress, he replied: „Yes, definitely. It was very, very even, especially in the first half. VfB actually got into the game better, they had two or three dangerous shots in the first 10 or 15 minutes. We didn’t get into the game that well.“
After FCB „generally didn’t have that many chances to score in the first half“, Kimmich saw a clear improvement in performance in the second half: „The second half was much better. Of course, we were very effective there. We still had the one very good chance from Koni. I thought we played very, very well and confidently in the second half.“
Kimmich and his team-mates can now recharge their batteries for a few days before heading to the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico in three weeks‘ time.
