Jamal Musiala continues to work hard on his comeback. While his teammates are preparing for the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart, the Bayern star completed an individual training session this morning at Säbener Straße.
Jamal Musiala will not yet be back in the FC Bayern squad for tonight’s Bundesliga opener. Instead, he trained individually at Säbener Straße.
The 23-year-old apparently really pushed himself during the session. Musiala trained alongside rehab manager Benjamin Sommer on the so-called “Sprint 2” machine and focused specifically on his running and sprinting endurance.
The machine is a training device equipped with a cable winch. It allows runs and sprints to be simulated under precisely adjusted resistance.
The workload data is digitally controlled and recorded and analyzed directly by the machine. Sommer was able to monitor the metrics on an iPad during the session and adjust the intensity accordingly.
For Musiala, this is another important step on the road back to competitive play. The offensive player is still in a cautious rehabilitation phase following his difficult health issues.
Bayern is taking no risks
Just last Thursday, Vincent Kompany confirmed that Musiala had returned to team training. At the same time, the Bayern coach made it clear that the national team player will not yet be called up to the squad for the match against Stuttgart.
“Basically, Jamal is doing relatively well. He’s participating in team training today,” Kompany explained at the press conference.
The Belgian left open the question of when Musiala will once again be a viable option for a competitive match. The decision will continue to be made in consultation with the medical staff. Bayern Munich does not want to take any unnecessary risks with the 23-year-old’s return.
The latest photos and impressions from Säbener Straße do offer some hope, however: Musiala is visibly working on his fitness and appears to be gradually increasing the intensity of his training sessions.
In addition to Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry also completed an individual training session at Säbener Straße on Friday morning. The 31-year-old is also not in the squad for the match against Stuttgart and continues to work toward his comeback.
