After the bitter 1-2 loss to Argentina in the World Cup semifinals, Harry Kane had to deal with more than just being eliminated from the World Cup. Questions about his future with the English national team were also the focus of attention immediately after the game.
The Bayern Munich forward didn’t want to commit to playing in another World Cup in four years’ time immediately after the loss. Instead, the 32-year-old made it clear that he wants to plan his career one step at a time.
“It’s still too early to say that. I take it year by year. It depends on how I feel. I love playing for England. But of course, four years is a long time. Still, you see how Messi is still performing even at an advanced age. I don’t know,” Kane explained after the game.
Kane Wants to Process World Cup Snub First

The Bayern Munich striker made no secret of how much the elimination at the hands of the defending champions hurts him. England had been leading until shortly before the end, before Argentina turned the game around and advanced to the World Cup final with a 2-1 victory.
“I’m going to have to process this elimination first. We gave it our all, but it wasn’t enough,” Kane said.
He deliberately left open the question of whether he’ll play for the Three Lions again at the 2030 World Cup. By then, Kane would be 36 years old. However, by referencing Lionel Messi, he made it clear that top-level performances are possible even at an advanced age for a soccer player.
This coming Saturday, Kane will face France in the third-place match. In Miami, he’ll come face-to-face with his two club teammates, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano.
After the World Cup, Kane’s focus will shift to the new season with FC Bayern. In Munich, the Englishman will join Vincent Kompany’s preseason training late, following his extended World Cup campaign.
