It looks like Sacha Boey will be staying at FC Bayern. After the right back was recently considered a possible departure candidate, the Frenchman resumed team training on Friday. Boey was also included in the Champions League roster.
Most recently, Sacha Boey had been training individually rather than with the team. Yesterday, Friday, the 25-year-old returned to team training.
The signs are thus increasingly pointing toward him staying. The record champions actually had a different plan for Boey and were looking for a buyer. However, a move to England fell through on Deadline Day. Most recently, only Galatasaray Istanbul was still considered a possible option.
But the transfer window has now closed in Turkey as well, so a move to Istanbul is also off the table.
Sports director Christoph Freund also confirmed on Friday that the situation has changed: “It’s now more likely that he’ll stay here. He’s always conducted himself impeccably. We had a different plan, but that’s how it goes in soccer,” the Bayern sporting director explained at the press conference ahead of the match against Schalke 04.
This means Boey could stay in Munich despite the fierce competition for the fullback positions. Freund also made it clear: “If all transfer windows are closed and he stays here, he will remain a player on our roster.” That’s exactly how things look now.
Boey has even been registered for the Champions League
Another indication that he’s staying is the squad planning for the Champions League. Bayern has registered Boey on the A-list for the Champions League season. A total of 24 players are on the record champion’s list—Boey is one of them.
Notably, while Boey was included for the Champions League, top prospect Lennart Karl is missing from the A-list. However, the 18-year-old can still be nominated for Champions League matches via the B-list.
This could open up new opportunities for Boey. The Frenchman is expected to remain in Munich at least until the winter. FC Bayern will therefore likely continue to count on the player whom the club had originally intended to let go this summer.
