The future of John Stones remains one of the most exciting topics on the international transfer market. Now that the England international has officially confirmed his departure from Manchester City, the 31-year-old has spoken in detail for the first time about his sporting future – and left all doors open
The defender will leave the Sky Blues in the summer after a total of ten years, with his contract expiring in June and there will be no extension
Stones has recently been repeatedly linked with FC Bayern, while Juventus Turin, AC Milan and Everton FC are also said to be interested in the England international
Particularly interesting from Munich’s point of view: Vincent Kompany knows Stones very well from their time together at Manchester City. The two played together for several years and hold each other in high regard
„I have no idea“
In an interview with The National, Stones spoke openly about his future and was also asked about a possible move to FC Bayern: „I have no idea where I’ll be next season. There’s still a lot to fight for in my career and a new challenge will be exciting. I’m keeping everything open. I can take what I’ve learned here with me and maybe pass it on,“ explained the centre-back
Despite his age, the defender believes that his career is far from over. „I still have the feeling that I can give a lot to a club,“ explained Stones. He also emphasized: „I feel in good physical shape.“
This is another reason why a new chapter abroad apparently appeals to him
Bayern transfer remains dependent on squad planning

However, it is also clear that a possible transfer to FC Bayern depends heavily on the further development of the squad. Munich are currently well-staffed in central defence, and only the possible departure of players such as Minjae Kim or Hiroki Ito could create new room for manoeuvre
However, Stones would fit the profile perfectly: the Englishman has enormous experience, can play both centrally and on the right in defense and is considered a strong build-up player
His versatility in particular makes him attractive to many top clubs, as does the fact that the defender is available on a free transfer and Kompany knows him well
Whether FC Bayern will actually make a serious move in the end, however, will probably only be decided after the World Cup.
