The contract talks between Konrad Laimer and FC Bayern continue to drag on. Toni Kroos has now made it clear why he believes Munich should fight for the Austrian
The future of Konrad Laimer at FC Bayern remains open. The Austrian’s contract runs until 2027, but there is currently no agreement on an extension in sight
In particular, the financial expectations of both sides are said to remain significantly different, which is why there is already speculation internally that Bayern could make an example of Laimer if no agreement can be reached
For Toni Kroos, however, the departure of the versatile defensive player would be difficult to comprehend. In his podcast „Einfach mal Luppen“, the 2014 world champion spoke out clearly in favor of an extension
„He is important for the team. He has proven his importance. And you can’t underestimate that with players who don’t score 40 goals, even if you pay them a euro,“ explained Kroos
At the same time, however, the former Bayern professional qualified: „But I don’t know what is being asked for.“
Hoeneß sends a clear message
Honorary President Uli Hoeneß had also recently made it clear how important Laimer is to FC Bayern
„Konny is a player I love very much,“ said the 74-year-old on DAZN, adding that Laimer is „extremely important for the team, as well as for the club’s external image.“
Nevertheless, Hoeneß also made it clear that there were limits to the negotiations. „But he’s not Maradona,“ explained the Bayern patron
Laimer would have to accept „that there are limits.“ Hoeneß also pointed out that the Austrian’s current salary is already exceptionally high: „Very few clubs in Europe can even offer what he currently earns.“
Hard to imagine Kompany’s team without Laimer
In sporting terms, Laimer has been one of the most important players under Vincent Kompany this season. The 28-year-old has impressed both as a right-back and in defensive midfield and has been in the starting eleven for most games
His running ability, aggression and versatility in particular make him extremely valuable to Munich
Interesting fact: Toni Kroos also knows the hardship of contract negotiations with FC Bayern from his own experience. Bayern bosses did not want to let the then midfield star move up into the salary bracket of the absolute top earners in 2014
The talks broke down – Kroos then moved to Real Madrid and shaped an era there.
