FC Bayern will once again have to dig deep into its pockets as the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) has imposed fines totalling almost 70,000 euros in two cases of unsportsmanlike conduct by its fans
Specifically, this relates to two Bundesliga matches from the current season. During the 4-0 away win at 1. FC Heidenheim on 21 December last year, at least 15 pyrotechnic items were set off in the Bayern fan block in the 80th minute of the match. The record champions were fined 18,750 euros for this. The club may use up to 6,250 euros of this amount for its own security or violence prevention measures
The fine in connection with the away match at Borussia Mönchengladbach on 25 October 2025 is even higher. At least 50 pyrotechnic objects were set alight in the Munich fan block before kick-off of the match (3:0). The sports court punished this incident with a fine of €50,000. Here too, FC Bayern can use part of the sum – up to €16,500 – for its own security or prevention measures
The verdicts are legally binding. For Munich, it is a further financial blow off the pitch. In the past, the club had repeatedly appealed to its supporters to refrain from setting off pyrotechnics in order to avoid sporting and financial disadvantages
Trouble already in the Champions League
The record champions had already been asked to pay in the Champions League this season. UEFA imposed sanctions following pyrotechnics incidents in the home match against Sporting Lisbon. Fan blocks were banned for the subsequent match against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. FC Bayern went even further than UEFA demanded and closed the entire lower tier of the south curve – a decision that caused massive resentment among the active fan scene.

In the weeks that followed, there were repeated protests in the stadium. It was not until the Champions League away match at PSV Eindhoven that there was a noticeable easing of tensions. The club actively sought dialogue with the fans in advance and coordinated travel and organizational procedures closely with the supporters. It remained calm in the visitors‘ block, with neither pyrotechnics nor critical banners to be seen.
