FC Bayern will in all likelihood start the coming season with goalkeepers Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich and Daniel Peretz, even if the latter could be loaned out. However, a major shake-up could take place next summer, which could open a door not only for Alexander Nübel.
In view of the fact that Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich are in the late autumn of their careers, it is worthwhile for FC Bayern to focus on young and talented keepers.
According to information from BILD, those responsible are said to have stuck with 20-year-old Jonas Urbig. Urbig actually belongs to 1. FC Köln, stood between the posts at Greuther Fürth last season and impressed with strong performances. Bayern’s talent scout Walter Junghans is said to have watched the talented goalkeeper several times in Fürth.

Cologne are banking on the youngster, whose loan spell at Fürth is coming to an end. In view of the transfer ban and the imminent departure of number one Marvin Schwäbe, Urbig would have a good chance of becoming a regular goalkeeper at the relegated Bundesliga side. The Munich club could thwart this scenario with a transfer.
How would Bayern plan with Urbig?
However, it is unclear how FC Bayern would plan with Urbig in this case. The goalkeeper could step into the number three role of Daniel Peretz if the latter is loaned out or keep goal for Bayern II. Neither of these options would really make sense, however, as Urbig can already look back on one season as a regular keeper in the second division.
Either a transfer deal for the summer of 2025 or an immediate purchase followed by a loan would make more sense. Cologne itself would be a logical choice as a possible loan club, but it is unclear whether such a model would even be legal given the transfer ban imposed by the cathedral city club. In any case, Bayern would have to pay Cologne a transfer fee. After all, the German U21 international keeper is tied down until 2026 and, according to Transfermarkt.de, has a market value estimated at four million euros.
