Harry Kane is once again toying with an unusual idea. On the sidelines of the World Cup, the Bayern Munich striker spoke about a career outside of soccer—and didn’t rule out a move to the NFL in the future.
It’s a hot-button topic that has followed the Englishman for years: a possible move to the NFL. Kane is considered an avowed fan of American football and has repeatedly toyed with the idea of taking on a role as a kicker. During an Instagram Q&A hosted by a U.S. sporting goods retailer, the 32-year-old has now reignited this idea.
When asked about a possible future in the American football league, his response caught people’s attention: “I still want to give the whole thing a try. It’s still a long way off, but why not? Of course, it takes a lot of training and hard work, but why not?”
Kane would apparently be welcome in the NFL. Last fall, legendary quarterback Eli Manning was quoted by “bundesliga.com” in no uncertain terms: “Of course he could do it. The New York Giants would welcome Harry Kane as their new kicker anytime.”
A contract extension is on the table at FC Bayern
But it’s unlikely to come to that for the time being. Kane is currently fully focused on soccer—and is putting up outstanding numbers for the German record champions. Last season, the Englishman scored a staggering 61 goals in 51 competitive matches. This scoring rate underscores why Munich is planning for the long term with him.
His contract at Säbener Straße runs through 2027. As things stand, Bayern wants to extend his contract as early as this summer. A quick move to American football is therefore out of the question anyway—Kane himself emphasized that the topic is still “a long way off.”

Right now, the captain’s focus is on the 2026 World Cup. On Wednesday (10 p.m. CET), he’ll kick off the tournament with the Three Lions against Croatia. England is still waiting for its first major title since 1966—and Kane feels ready. “Physically and mentally, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in my career,” he told “ITV.”
A switch to another sport thus remains a thought experiment for Kane, but nothing more than a distant possibility. His path leads first through the tournament in the U.S. and, in all likelihood, on to FC Bayern.
