The transfer poker surrounding Anthony Gordon continues to gain momentum. While FC Bayern continue to view the England international as a desired solution for the attack, the first top club has now apparently withdrawn from the race
As transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports, FC Barcelona have now significantly reduced their interest in Gordon, mainly due to the enormous financial demands of a potential deal
Newcastle United are still demanding between 80 and 90 million euros for the 25-year-old, who would also command a high salary – a total package that the Catalans are currently unable to afford
Bayern remain in the race
The situation is apparently different at FC Bayern. According to Romano, Munich are still looking closely at Gordon, meaning that a real duel could develop between the German record champions and several Premier League clubs in the summer
Particularly interesting: despite the high demands from Newcastle, Bayern do not appear to have given up on the player
Internally, Gordon is still considered one of the players of choice for the attack, with his dynamism, versatility and aggression on the ball fitting perfectly into the profile that Vincent Kompany is looking for
The fact that Newcastle are initially asking for extremely high sums is obviously no surprise to anyone at Säbener Straße. Bayern have experienced several times in recent years how complicated negotiations with English clubs can be. The transfer of Harry Kane in particular showed how much Premier League clubs initially play poker
At times, sums of up to 130 million euros were on the table for Kane before both sides finally agreed on around 100 million euros

Pain threshold is significantly lower
However, it also seems clear that Munich are not prepared to match Newcastle’s current asking price. According to media reports, FC Bayern’s financial pain threshold is around 60 million euros – well below the 80 to 90 million euros currently being demanded
This sum would roughly correspond to the current market value of the attacking player
Despite the intensive efforts to acquire Gordon, Munich are continuing to sound out the market in parallel, with Charles De Ketelaere, Dusan Vlahovic, Bradley Barcola and Mika Godts among those recently linked with the record champions
Nevertheless, Gordon apparently remains the preferred solution internally.
