FC Bayern is still looking for a new coach. Sebastian Hoeneß from VfB Stuttgart was considered a candidate, but the former coach of the FCB amateurs extended his contract with the Swabians. He has now confirmed that he will continue to coach VfB next season.

Sebastian Hoeneß has reaffirmed that he wants to remain coach of VfB Stuttgart, once again ruling out the coaching job at FC Bayern next season.

Hoeneß said after VfB’s 1:2 in the Bundesliga at Werder Bremen: „You can be absolutely sure that I will also be coach of VfB Stuttgart next year.“

The 41-year-old added: „If I had had the idea of changing, then I would certainly not have extended my contract.“

Hoeneß explained the reasons for extending his contract with Stuttgart until 2027: „I am here out of conviction, because I have the feeling that we can develop something together here. From my point of view, nothing has changed.“

Hoeneß became third division champion with Bayern II

Sebastian Hoeneß is the son of former Bayern striker Dieter Hoeneß, FCB Honorary President Uli Hoeneß is his uncle.

He coached the German record champions‘ U19s from 2017 to 2019 and the second team from 2019 to 202, with whom he won the Third Division title.

FC Bayern is still looking for a successor to coach Thomas Tuchel, who has to leave the club after the season. The preferred candidate was Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard decided to stay with Bayer Leverkusen. As an alternative, the Bayern management considered their former coach Julian Nagelsmann, but the national coach extended his contract with the DFB until 2026.

According to various media reports, Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton & Hove Albion, Unai Emery from Aston Villa and Austrian national team coach Ralf Rangnick are still in the running for the coaching job at the Isar. Kicker has now also brought Lucien Favre, who is currently without a club and with whom Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl worked for many years at Borussia Mönchengladbach, into play.
