Bayern Munich want to focus on homegrown talent more by promoting them to the first team and give them more playing time. Julian Nagelsmann is deemed the perfect coach for the development of the players.
So what’s in store for Gabriel Vidovic?
According to „SPORT1“, head coach Julian Nagelsmann wants the 18-year-old to train with the professionals in the summer preparation, and to take a close look at him. With 31 goals in 30 appearances for the amateur squad, the offensive player established himself in the U23s last season and made three appearances in the top German division towards the end of the season.
Sadio Mane’s upcoming transfer shouldn’t exactly increase the youngster’s chances of playing. However, the entourage of the Croatian is concerned that Vidovic will not get enough playing time and his development will stagnate. Vidovic made his Bayern debut this year against Arminia Bielefeld where he only played one minute. Overall, Vidovic has played 33 minutes so far for the professional squad.
It is quite interesting that Vidovic participated in Bayern’s pre-season last year under Julian Nagelsmann but did not receive any playing time, nor was included in the squad up until the game against Bielefeld.
A loan deal could serve as a possible option to prevent this stagnation. FC Bayern prefer a loan in a „development league“. First and foremost, the club is rather looking to loan the player to Dutch Eredivisie or the Belgian Jupiler League. In February of this year, the Croatian signed a professional contract that would keep him at the club until 2025.
For Joshua Zirkzee, a loan to Belgium paid off greatly. The Dutchman scored 23 goals in 31 games for RSC Anderlecht and can now count on his chances on his return to Munich. Chris Richards also made his breakthrough with the help of a loan deal at TSG Hoffenheim. It is quite possible that Gabriel Vidovic will take a similar path.
