There is still a big question mark behind Robert Lewandowski’s future at Bayern Munich. Even though those responsible have repeatedly emphasized that they want to extend the contract with the 33-year-old, there have been no talks between the club and the player so far. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann hopes that the Polish goal-machine will stay at Bayern for a long time.

After a clear announcement by sports director Hasan Salihamidzic almost two weeks ago, Nagelsmann has now publicly advocated for Lewandowski to stay. The 34-year-old told the media on Tuesday evening before the Champions League game against RB Salzburg that he is not actively involved in the contract talks with the striker, but that he still wants to do his part to ensure that he stays with the record champions: „Lewy knows from me and also from the club that we really want to keep him.”

“I talk a lot to him“

Nagelsmann also made it clear that the 33-year-old forward is an important contact person for him: „I have a lot of conversations with him. I also totally take him into my consideration because I want him to always be able to perform at his best. He should feel good and be happy on the pitch.”

According to club CEO Oliver Kahn, Bayern will begin talks with Lewandowski in a timely manner. According to reports, both Bayern and Lewandowski himself want to have clarity by the summer as to whether and how Lewandowski’s future will be decided. The Polish national team player is currently tied to Bayern until 2023.
