On Saturday night, FC Bayern faced Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga’s top match. The record champions wanted to win the showdown and pull three points ahead.
However, BVB arrived in Munich with a solid, compact defense and few goals conceded. In addition, the most recent head-to-head matches—not only in Dortmund but also at the Allianz Arena—had mostly been close contests.
It was an intense, at times frenzied game that ended 2–2, leaving the match without a winner.
Intense Match Between Bayern and BVB
Bayern entered the match with a few changes; Joshua Kimmich made his return and started right away. In central defense, Minjae Kim was chosen over Jonathan Tah, a decision Aaron Danks explained accordingly. The match got off to a lively start. Five minutes in, Alphonso Davies broke through for the first time, prompting Jobe Bellingham to pick up a yellow card.
The first big moment came in the tenth minute when Michael Olise hit the post with a powerful left-footed shot. Nevertheless, Bayern didn’t apply much pressure because BVB defended very attentively. As a result, clear-cut chances were few and far between. In the 21st minute, Jonas Urbig had to show his class against a shot by Jobe Bellingham, but he was there to make the save.

Shortly afterward came a double blow: within a few minutes, Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry suffered injuries that appeared to be serious. Both had to be substituted, with Nathaniel Brown and Josip Stanišić coming into the game. Shortly afterward, BVB celebrated a goal, but Carney Chukwuemeka was not only offside but also fouled Jonas Urbig.
Almost immediately afterward, FC Bayern took the lead. BVB made a mistake this time; Konrad Laimer was alert, played a quick one-two with Olise, and was initially denied by Kobel but scored on his second attempt. After that, Kane had another chance, and BVB also made a dangerous run toward the goal but failed to score. Bayern went into halftime leading 1–0.
BVB scores a late equalizer
Laimer had the first chance after the break, shooting with his left foot toward the far corner. But Gregor Kobel made the save. Bayern came out of the locker room with momentum, looking to add to their lead. In the 55th minute, they had the best possible chance to do so, but Harry Kane missed a penalty kick awarded for a handball by Felix Nmecha. The Englishman hit the crossbar.
The game remained intense and eventful. Following a turnover by Kane, BVB launched a quick counterattack, and Serhou Guirassy—who had been inconspicuous up to that point—was on hand in the penalty area to fire the ball into the left corner, leaving Urbig with no chance. That was the equalizer. After that, however, BVB became too passive again. Following a spectacular chip by Kimmich, Kane headed the ball into the middle and Upamecano tapped it over the line—2–1!
Bayern now took control and tried to seal the win. And there was yet another injury, as Olise felt some discomfort in the closing stages and also had to leave the field. Lennart Karl came on for him. BVB tried one last push and made an offensive substitution. And it paid off, as Fabio Silva scored in the closing minutes with a shot into the far corner to make it 2–2.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Lennart Karl hit the crossbar with a curling shot, and then it was all over!
